Engaging the Balkan Region through Communication and Networking

Scope of the Papers

As the name suggests, the BalkanCom is held in the countries in the Balkan Peninsula. The goal of the conference is to bring together researchers in academia, research labs and industry from all over the world to this historical region. The goal is to address the important challenges in the evolving world of Communications and Networking, while at the same time bolstering the potential and talent that is found in this exciting and dynamic region.

The first edition of the conference will take place on May 30 - June 2, 2017 in Tirana, Albania—one of the largest cities in the Balkan Peninsula. The theme of the conference, Engaging the Balkan Region through Communication and Networking, is fitting for the Balkan Peninsula, which has a rich history and needs indeed increased communication and networking in every sense of the word.

We seek original completed and unpublished work not currently under review by any other journal/magazine/conference. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Wireless systems and networks
  • Communication protocols (transport, routing, link, and physical layers)
  • Optical communication systems
  • Cross-layer design and optimization
  • Information theory and coding
  • Signal processing for communications
  • Green communication and networking
  • Resource management
  • Deployment scenarios and experiences
  • Infrastructures, Platforms, testbeds, and softwarea
  • 5G wireless and Beyond
  • Wireless ad hoc, mesh and sensor networks
  • Cognitive radio networks
  • Communication in challenging environments (underwater, underground, tunnels/mines, space, disasters)
  • Internet of Things and M2M communication
  • Nanosscale communication networks
  • Integration of heterogeneous networks
  • Software-defined networking
  • Security and privacy in communication networks

Submission Guidelines

Papers should describe original work and should be no more than 5 pages in a double-column format including tables, figures and references. Accepted papers up to 5 pages will be published in the proceedings. One extra page is allowed with an additional fee, if accepted.

BalkanCom reserves the right to exclude a paper from distribution after the conference if the paper is not presented at the conference. Best papers will be fast tracked to Computer Networks (Elsevier) and Ad Hoc Networks (Elsevier) Journals.

   Notification of acceptance:     April 30, 2017
   Camera-ready papers due:    May 5, 2017
